The X-Files movie sequel finally happening
With David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson both returning…
Nearly 10 years since Mulder and Scully last hit the screen, the FBI agents are back on duty for the long-awaited follow-up to the X-Files film.
Yes, after whispers, rumours, false starts and enough bogus script draft reports to make us think aliens had abducted everyone involved, the main players of the X-Files team are back together.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return to their iconic roles and series mastermind Chris Carter is stepping behind the camera to shoot a script he wrote with fellow X-pert writer/producer Frank Spotnitz. The reason for the delay? Both Duchovny and Anderson had wanted some time away from their characters (Anderson to get classy with the likes of Bleak House and Duchovny to try directing and get, er, sleazy with Californication), plus the little matter of Carter having to settle a lawsuit he lodged with rights owners 20th Century Fox over payments for the show’s TV syndication.
But now that’s all behind them and Fox has flashed the greenlight for a December start in Vancouver and even committed to a release date of 25th July 2008 in the US. The plot is – natch – being kept under wraps, but we do know that it’s a supernatural thriller that won’t dig heavily into the mythology of the series, but it will apparently evolve Mulder and Scully’s relationship. It’s finally happening! We knew we were right to believe…
