The Witcher - new screens and video
See the game's largest city and quest system in action
Sept 28, 2007
New screenshots and a trailer have just arrived for The Witcher, a high fantasy role-playing game that wants to change the way you make choices in the genre. Chief designer, Michal Madej thinks that saving and loading makes it impossible for a player's decisions to have any real meaning in the RPGs.
"Eventually it can destroy any moral problems you have in the game... If there is any situation that needs a decision, they would save the game just before. They will see what is happening with different choices, and probably, they will choose the one that is the most effective. That's why I think that people who're playing role-playing games aren't actually making real choices. Instead, they're testing the designer's vision of what [the] best choice is." said Madej in an interview for our lasthands-on preview of the game.
Madej's answer is to give you more choices to make in larger environments, and a game design that doesn't reveal the consequences of your decisions until much later in the game. The game is scheduled to release on October 30. In the meantime, check out the video below for an in-depth look at The Witcher's largest city and see the game's quest system, combat, and fist fighting minigame in action.
