The Weinsteins head out for a Dirty Step Stomp
Dance pic parody is getting ready to hit the floor
You’d be forgiven for looking at the announcement that The Weinstein Company has bought a script called Dirty Step Stomp and thinking that it’s the true-life adventures of co-founder Harvey Weinstein as he crushes directors’ spirits and makes himself known.
Instead, it’s taking a leaf from the success of Date and Epic Movie and taking full aim at the recent crop of dance movies, including Stomp The Yard and Step Up. Oh, and as the title might suggest, there will also be nods to more classic groove footage such as Dirty Dancing and Flashdance.
Penned by playwrights Steve Basilone and Annie Mebane (who really should know better), it sounds horribly liked a tired collection of easily spoofed scenes, which of course means a mint at the box office. What have we done to offend thee, oh cinema gods? Someone sacrifice Rob Schneider and perhaps our fortunes will improve.
