The Top 7... Rockin' intros
Seven hot games, tuned and ready to roll
3. Tales of the Abyss (PlayStation 2, 2006)
Back to anime! The Tales series is well-known for high-quality animated intros. The music that accompanies them, though, tends to vary - at least in the US. Usually, it's an original instrumental composition. In Japan, a pop or rock act always provides a fresh track.
This time, though, the original track is kept - as an instrumental. The vocals were replaced with fierce guitar noodling, creating a song that's perfectly matched to the scenes of battle and drama that foreshadow the game's events. The reworked version ditches the indie-rock rawness of the original Japanese version - which is damn cool in its own right, check it out - for a polish that recalls the classic intros of days gone by.
