Inspired by a Victor Hugo poem, and set in writer/director Robert Guédiguian’s beloved working-class Marseilles neighbourhood of L’Estaque, this tough/tender modern fable sees a recently laid-off union rep (Jean-Pierre Darroussin) expecting to spend more time with the grandkids.

But when he and his wife (Ariane Ascaride) are violently robbed by an ex-colleague, their socialist ideals of community and solidarity are sorely tested.

Shot in warm, summery tones, TSOK muses pertinently on justice and forgiveness while painting a moving portrait of an enduring marriage.
