The Rum Diary gets a trailer
"If the drinking doesn't get you in trouble, the women definitely will"
The Rum Diary might have spent the better part of a decade stewing in its own juices, but from the look of its first official trailer, it will have been well worth the wait.
Adapted from Hunter S. Thompson’s raucous yarn by Withnail & I ’s Bruce Robinson, the film follows the exploits of boozed-up journalist Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) as he stumbles upon a story of corruption and intrigue in Puerto Rico.
Take a look at the trailer below, courtesy of Movieline :
What stands out to us immediately is that Robinson’s script looks extremely funny (“how does anybody drink 161 miniatures?”), and better still, Depp appears to have knocked the Keith Richards impersonation on the head for this one.
Aaron Eckhart also appears as the slippery businessman upon whom Ross is looking for dirt, and Amber Heard stars as his sexy younger girlfriend. A frantic shower scene between her and Depp looks certain to set pulses racing in multiplexes up and down the land.
The film will arrive in UK screens on 4 November. If you want our advice, you’ll seek out a cinema where they allow you to take a drink into the screening. It seems as if that was how it was meant to be enjoyed!
