If you weren’t paying close attention to the new international trailer for Rogue One you might have missed an important clue about the Star Wars Rogue One movie. Sorry about that.
But, don’t worry, 12DOVE is here to save the day!
Jyn’s father has been seen plenty of times in trailers and the chiselled jawline of Mads Mikkelsen makes an appearance in the international trailer (hey, we’re not complaining) but it’s the interaction between Jyn and her mother that interests us.
Jyn is told to “Trust the Force”. Okay, that’s pretty cool but everyone and their Ewok knows about the Force by this point. It’s what happens next at 0:26 in the above trailer that’s important: Jyn is given a crystal.
But not just any crystal. It’s got to be a Kyber crystal.
If you don’t know your Lando Calrissians from your Coruscants then here’s a rundown on the crystals: They are extremely rare but, if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one, (as Jedis-in-training tend to do) then you can use them to create a lightsaber or, if you have several, a superweapon.
Wait a minute, isn’t the Death Star a superweapon? Uh-oh.
Does Jyn actually hold the key to bringing down the rebels she has worked so hard to fight for? We know that the Deathstar uses eight crystals for its planet destroying laser, and that the Empire spent five years looking for them, so these things are pretty rare.
One the other hand maybe that crystal will end up being used to create a new lightsaber? Maybe for someone we know? Now that would be pretty darn awesome. We can’t wait to find out…
