The magic ingredients of Killzone 2

Sept 5, 2007

How can Killzone 2 possibly live up to the hype? What magic beans is developer Guerrilla throwing into the pot to ensure that it meets the vertiginous expectations of gamers? Well, according to Guerrilla producer Steven Ter Heide it's "the sheer intensity, level of detail and visual quality that we feel will setKillzone 2apart." Certainly the level thatwe've seen in actiondoesn't just tick all of those boxes, it blows bloody great holes in them.

However, as Ter Heide explained when we caught up with him at the recent Leipzig Games Convention, from a developer's point of view it can be difficult to see beyond the blemishes. "When playing the game ourselves we only see the flaws, so one of the things we did before this year's E3 - maybe two weeks before - we took the demo to Sony HQ in London," Ter Heide told us. "We showed it to some of the guys who played through and at the end of the level there was dead silence. They were speechless... By that time we knew that we were on to something."

And - lucky for Sony, lucky for Guerrilla and, best of all, lucky for gamers - that intangible 'something' seems to be of the very, very special variety.
