The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray extras revealed
It’ll be available in the UK from 8 April 2013
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey gets a home entertainment release in the UK on 8 April 2013, and the full line-up of extras has been announced.
Here's what the official press release had to say about the special features:
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray contain the following special features:
• Full Suite of Peter Jackson’s Production Videos. Enter Middle-earth of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson takes you behind the scenes, on location and amidst the star-studded cast in a series of video journals that puts you in the forefront of latest in filmmaking with more than two hours of additional content. Highlights of the journals include:
- Start of Production
- Location Scouting
- Filming in 3D
- Post-production Overview
- Wellington World Premiere"
Which sounds like Blu-ray owners will get the (admittedly superb) production videos that Jackson deployed throughout the making of the epic Lord Of The Rings prequel, but no new behind-the-scenes footage.
Meanwhile, the wording of said press release suggests that there won’t be any extras for DVD devotees.
And as far as we can work out, it doesn’t seem like it will be possible to watch The Hobbit in PJ’s 48-frames-per-second format at home (unless you happen to live in a cinema equipped with those capabilities).
An Extended Edition (a la LOTR ) is confirmed for later in the year, with no specific release date provided as yet. We’d expect an abundance of bonus material with that package.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is available on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download from 8 April 2013.
