The hidden references in World of Warcraft

Labyrinth
Haggle is much like his Labyrinth counterpart Hoggle, a disgusting gnome obsessed with trinkets and trash. You can find him on the Ironforge side of the Deeprun Tram station.

He-Man
This is a great one. You’ll find Blizzard’s hilarious take on He-Man, Battle-Cat, Orko and Skeletor doing the rounds as Arathi Basin battlemasters in the Lower City area of neutral Shattrath City.

Men in Black
Area 52 in the Netherstorm is packed with bizarre references, but it’s these Goblins in Black that stand out for us. Leave town and they’ll even zap you with a Neuralyzer debuff that says “The flash of light you did not see did not erase your memories.” Cute.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Let it never be said that the folks at Blizzard lack a sense of humor. Canny players passing through the Dalaran Underbelly can spot a level 80 rat instructing four level 1 turtles surrounded by vials of green ooze. No sign of Bebop or Rocksteady, though.

Silence of the Lambs
First there’s Clarice Foster character in Thunderbluff (with her lips sewn shut). Then there’s a quest in Dire Maul North to make an ogre-skin suit, which eventually angers an ogre to say “It puts the tannin in the basket or it gets the mallet again!”

Star Trek
There are more Star Trek references than we care to count. So here are the best you can find: a Chief Engineer Scooty in Booty Bay, a Sprok in Gnomeregan, and a be-goggled Jhordy Lapforge in Gadgetzan. Nice.

LOST
You’ll find a mysterious vault on an island in Sholazar Basin. Try to open it, and you’ll see the numbers: 5, 9, 16, 17, 24, and 43, a rather unsubtle play on the reoccurring digits in the television show, LOST.
