We feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices have suddenly cried out in… laughter? All right, so we couldn’t resist going with a paraphrased quote to launch a story about the trailer for Fanboys.
The comedy of fandom, friendship and just the slightest whiff of obsession has now hit the net and follows the misadventures of a pack of nerdy friends who discover that one of their number is not long for this world. Before he goes the way of Yoda and Obi-Wan, they pledge to help him see Star Wars: Episode One. You see, the comedy’s set in 1998, the year before The Phantom Menace arrived and stomped on the hearts of the faithful everywhere. It was a more innocent time, a happier time, when the promise of a new Star Wars film was so strong that just a glimpse of the teaser trailer was enough to make grown men soil themselves. As opposed to now, when the mere mention of Jar Jar is enough to make grown men soil themselves while weeping bitter tears.
With Superman Returns’ Sam Huntingdon and Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell, in starring roles, it promises plenty of fan-based Star Wars and – because no film is complete without a villain – Trek humour, including a cameo from the king of ham William Shatner.
