The first Trainspotting 2 trailer is here and has drugs, drugs, and more drugs
After 20 years of waiting, Trainspotting 2 is nearly here. The first official trailer for the sequel to the Danny Boyle-directed cult classic dropped this morning.
The gang is back. with Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Mark Renton alongside Robert Carlyle’s Spud and Johnny Lee Miller’s Sick Boy. Danny Boyle once again directs.
The crew appear to be doing what they do best: madcap, drug-fuelled adventures. The trailer focuses on Renton’s return to Edinburgh after 20 years away from the Scottish capital and how his friends and lovers have (or haven’t) moved on.
Fans of the original Trainspotting will recognise the familiar ‘Choose Life’ and the backing of Underworld’s Born Slippy but the riotous reunion is tempered by hints of modernity, as Renton says, “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.”
We care, Renton.
Directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Johnny Lee Miller and Kelly MacDonald, Trainspotting 2 is released on 27 January, 2017.

I'm the Senior Entertainment Writer here at 12DOVE, focusing on news, features, and interviews with some of the biggest names in film and TV. On-site, you'll find me marveling at Marvel and providing analysis and room temperature takes on the newest films, Star Wars and, of course, anime. Outside of GR, I love getting lost in a good 100-hour JRPG, Warzone, and kicking back on the (virtual) field with Football Manager. My work has also been featured in OPM, FourFourTwo, and Game Revolution.
