The Doctor & Ace Together Again Sort Of

Impossibly cute promo images of David Tennant and Sophie Aldred in new CBBC show Tree Fu Tom

There’s a Doctor Who reunion of sorts taking place on CBeebies. Tenth Doctor David Tennant and Seventh Doctor companion Ace actress Sophie Aldred are providing voices for a new show aimed at four to six year olds called Tree Fu Tom . The show is set in an enchanted world where movement creates magic. Aldred voices Tom, who appears to be a normal eight-year-old boy but transforms into a tiny-but-mighty super-hero by donning his magic belt and performing a martial arts-style Tree Fu move. Tom then travels to an enchanted kingdom called Treetopolis, inhabited by sprites, bugs and naughty fungi – the Mushas.

Tennant voices Twigs, a silly and energetic Acorn Sprite who’s Tom’s sidekick.

“I think Tree Fu Tom is imaginative, inventive, exciting, really good fun and it looks beautiful,” says Tennant. “It looks like no expense has been spared and I can’t wait to see all the finished episodes as everything I have seen so far has been a visual feast. It’s an incredible, wonderful thing that we have channels like CBeebies that devote so much time and effort and skill to telling wonderful stories.”

Aldred adds: “I had previously played a character called Ace who was the Doctor’s companion and now, some years later, I’ve got a Doctor Who as my companion! It’s been really great working with David and we have shared a couple of Doctor Who stories!”

Tree Fu Tom is due to start airing in March. Watch it set record ratings… for over 30s watching CBeebies.
