The latest shots from the set of The Dark Tower adaptation have arrived online, giving us our first look at the film's villainous Man In Black played by Matthew McConaughey. After spending early parts of the shoot in South Africa, production has now upped sticks to its current location, New York City. McConaughey was spotted on the streets of Manhattan yesterday decked head to toe in his character's signature color. He really looks the part:

Now, you might be thinking that there's a HUGE difference between these images set in modern-day New York and previous set photos. Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy? That's all part of The Dark Tower's charm. From what's been revealed so far, this film will be the first of several adapted from Stephen King's series of novels that cross over into different timelines and worlds. It's also been confirmed that the movies won't follow the chronological order as the story in the books, but we can expect the broad strokes to be the same.

While it's far from a sure thing, it nevertheless looks like these pics caught a key scene from the novels being captured on film. The moment when the Man in Black/Walter Padick/Randall Flagg - yeah, he's got a lot of names - sets events in motion that lead to young Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) joining the gunslinger Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) in Mid-World.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, and starring Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick and Tom Taylor, The Dark Tower opens on February 17, 2017.
