The CW Gives The Originals The Green Light, Renews Beauty And The Beast
More fantasy with a side order of angst on the way
More good news for telefantasty fans… well telefantasy fans who like a good dollop of relationship drama on the side: The CW has given a green light to The Vampire Diaries spin-off series The Originals , and has renewed Beauty And The Beast .
The network already announced early renewals for Supernatural , The Vampire Diaries and Arrow a few weeks back. You do have to wonder, though, whether now that the network will have so many sci-fi/fantasy shows running concurrently in the 2013/14 season, that the chances of The Tomorrow People also getting a green light have been slashed? Hopefully not – here on SFX we’re still hopeful for that one.
"As soon as we saw [this week]'s episode of The Vampire Diaries , we knew we wanted more of The Originals.” said CW top dog Mark Pedowitz, referring to the episode of The Vampire Diaries that served as a back door pilot for The Originals . “Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with The Vampire Diaries , which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for The Originals .
“We're also very excited to bring back Beauty And The Beast and Hart Of Dixie for next season – both series continue to be creatively strong and compelling, and their fans are incredibly passionate. I'm very happy to have all three series on the schedule for next season.”
