Writer/director and one-to-watch Elliott Goldner’s feature debut is a rare find: a convincing British found-footage horror that actually has some good performances and genuine scares.
Techie Robin Hill (a Ben Wheatley regular) and priest Gordon Kennedy (Little John in TV’s Robin Hood ) are posted to deepest darkest Devon to investigate a “miracle” at a rundown rural church, which means capturing everything on camera, however mundane it might seem.
For the most part, it’s the interplay between these two lively, lived-in characters that holds the interest until, after a slow but steady first hour – and a fair few false starts – the last act goes gratifyingly nuts.
