The best GTA IV has to offer
The slickest cars, the most adrenaline-burning missions, and cream of the entire gritty crop
Distractions
1) Arrowing in
We just love darts - it must be nostalgic memories for throwing sharp things at stuff. While not quite Shenmue-esque in its brilliance, you’ll spend ages at the virtual pub.
2) QUB3D
A genuinely outstanding original puzzler in its own right (it’s hard to explain; imagine a three dimensional riff on Columns) that’ll no doubt inspire fierce competition over at theRockstar Social Club.
3) Naked truth
What visit to Liberty City would be complete without a little of the old gentleman’s relish? That’s right, mosey on over to a strip club, lay down some greenbacks and you’ll score your own personal lap dance...
4) Side pocket
It’s testament to Rockstar’s insane attention to detail that a snooker/pool sim this fully fledged is hidden away in a couple of bars scattered throughout the city. Mind you, finishing a game takes aaaaaages. Seriously. Even when you’re sober...

5) Net profit
GTA IV’s ‘internet’ will supply you with tons of giggles - whether it’s the bizarre banner ads, deluges of spam email or countless easter eggs. Tip: try replying to emails; it’s a further interesting insight into Niko’s personality.
Heroes and villains
1) Niko Bellic
The star of our story, the stubbly Balkan with the checkered past and a marked resemblance toAlbert Steptoecomes across as cardboard cut-out for all of five minutes before proving himself one of the most incredible gaming protagonists ever.
2) Packie McReary
Packed with Oirish attitude, small-time gangster with big plans Packie quickly became one of our bestest pals. Is it roguish charm? Nah, it’s his missions; they’re high octane shoot-‘em-ups and they rock. Packie’s an Irish take on Patrick, by the way.
3) Vlad Glebov
It’s a pity Vlad only lasts all of five minutes in terms ofIV’s sprawling plot, but this ultra offensive Rusky made us guffaw out loud more than once with his unique brand of put-downs.
4) Mikhail Faustin
Another Eastern European badass with a sprawling crime empire, Mikhail is one of the most emotionally complex characters ever, a raging mess of a man forever flitting between lucid sincerity and cocaine-fuelled rage.
5) Roman Bellic
He may initially threaten to come across as overly obvious oafish comedy relief, but Niko’s ebullient cousin also ends up being his most trusted ally. Roman visibly matures as the game progresses, and we love him.
