The Artist sweeps the 2012 BAFTAs
Silent movie takes home seven trophies
Silent cinema made a big noise at the BAFTA 2012 awards ceremony last night. Black-and-white charmer The Artist took home seven awards, including the coveted Best Film prize.
The BAFTA jury clearly had eyes for only one film at the red carpet event, held in London yesterday evening, as The Artist also took home the Best Director, Original Screenplay, Lead Actor, Costume Design, Cinematography and Original Music awards.
Also getting some loving were Octavia Spencer for The Help and Christopher Plummer for Beginners in the Supporting categories, while Meryl Streep added another Leading Actress award to her groaning cabinet for The Iron Lady.
Meanwhile, Thor actors Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston both missed out on the Orange Rising Star award, which went to Adulthood actor Adam Deacon.
On the British side of things, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy nabbed the Outstanding British Film prize (and deservedly so), while Paddy Considine’s phenomenal Tyrannosaur was awarded the Outstanding Debut gong.
