K is for Kiki’s Delivery Service
Released in 1989, Kiki’s Delivery Service follows a young witch-in-training who upon her 13th birthday much leave home for a year to learn how to live independently. Along with her talking cat Gigi they fly away to a town called Korico and set up her own delivery service (complete with broom). Once she loses the power to fly she must learn to deal with her new found life. Wonderfully animated with a brilliantly realised landscape – reportedly modelled on an idealised European town. A live action adaptation of the touching animation is currently in production to reach cinemas in 2014!
