E is for Earthsea
From Up On Poppy Hill director Goro Miyazaki had his first foray into Studio Ghibli with 2006’s Tales From Earthsea . The film was adapted from a series of short stories and novels (first, third, and fourth books in particular) from Ursula K Le Guin which followed the magic and dragon-filled history of the Earthsea realm – an isolated group of unchartered islands. Guin had many offers to adapt her Earthsea stories but it was with Ghibli she trusted her vision.
The latest film from Studio Ghilbli, From Up On Poppy Hill , arrives in UK cinemas on 2 August. Featuring the voice talent of Gillian Anderson, Christina Hendricks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anton Yelchin and Aubrey Plaza and is directed by Goro Miyazaki.
