Barely recouping its budget at the US box office and failing to strike a chord with critics, Terminator Genisys had a rough ride this summer. And by the looks of this latest piece of intel, buried deep in an article from THR, the future of the franchise doesn't look promising.
Original plans, prior to Genisys' release, were for an entire new universe of movies and connected TV shows kickstarted by this summer's reboot. As well as the two sequels lined up on Paramount's slate for 2017 and 2018, a dedicated small screen outing had attracted the likes of Sarah Connor Chronicles scribes Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Despite producer David Ellison's assurances earlier this year that the TV show was going ahead, none of those projects are expected to materialise any time soon.
THR sources state that "the notion of a Terminator universe is on hold indefinitely," citing Ellison's hubris as the reason for Genisys' catastrophic failure. While it managed to make a fair chunk o' change in China, where audiences loved it, it might have been too little, too late.
