Tara Reid gets work
The former Pussycat stars in her brother’s bowling movie, and Ben Stiller produces a surfer comedy
You are Tara Reid. Your film career is on the wane. How on the wane? Here’s a hint: the last memorable film you starred in was directed by Uwe Boll. So how do you get your next part? You have your brother make a film.
Reid’s sibling, Tommy – heretofore best known as a producer of exactly one film – is calling the shots on 7-10 Split, a comedy penned by Ross Patterson. Tara and Ross will star in the film, which follows an aspiring actor who becomes the Tiger Woods of bowling, shaking up the competition. Together he and his girlfriend shove a little edge back into the ball-and-pin world.
And they’re not the only ones getting into the game. Ben Stiller’s Red Hour company has helped writer Brent Forrester sell his spec script Big Wave to 20th Century Fox.
Wave focuses a top-notch surfer who suffers a massive wipeout. Traumatised, he gives up the sport – but is tempted back to the sea when an old surfer’s home comes under threat and he needs the prize money to save it.
The pitch sounds like it has comedy legs, and Forrester’s credentials speak for themselves: starting out on Stiller’s show, he’s also written for The Simpsons and King Of The Hill. And the producers have hired Emmett and Brendan Malloy to direct the film, which would appear the perfect fit – they’re best known for directing amazing surfing videos. Time for everyone to start talking like Crush from Finding Nemo, then: awesome!
