PS3 fanboys who also happen to love Namco Bandai's acclaimed "Tales" series of anime RPGs have something to be excited about today. The next Tales game, Tales of Xillia, is being developed exclusive for the PS3.
That makes it the first in the long-running franchise to do so. Previous entries in the Tales legacy were created first on the Xbox 360 and then ported over the PS3, but in the previous generation they were much more common on the PS2.
Xillia is pronounced ex-sill-ee-aay, by the way, which would have been our last guess [Ed note: Wait - have I been pronouncing Xevious wrong for 25 years?]. We look forward to GameStop employees asking us if we want to pre-order Tales of Zill-ee-uh, and then when our friends talk about how they're looking forward to Tales of Zill-yuh.
But, even though it's sure to be one of those most mispronounced games for the PS3 yet, there's a lot to be excited about. Namco Bandai will be taking full advantage of the PS3 hardware, with the legendary artist from the series on the design team, and Japanese pop sensation Ayumi Hamasaki signed on to do the theme song.
The publisher describes the game as a "steadfast conviction RPG." We don't know what that means either, but we're looking forward to finding out. There will apparently be two central characters, a boy and a girl. Beyond that, the story remains a mystery until Tales of Xillia comes out sometime in 2011.
