Surf's up for Point Break 2
Little hand says it’s time for a sequel
Even though it’s getting a whole new breath of life – albeit via a parody – in Hot Fuzz, cheese-fest 1991 FBI/surf action thriller Point Break is getting a sequel.
The surprisingly titled Point Break 2 will pick up 20 years after the original, and uncover the truth about the supposed death of Bodhi (played by Patrick Swayze), the surfing guru-cum-crime lord who was last seen disappearing under a giant wave. Which will tie into the main story of a surfer-turned Navy SEAL will be tracking a criminal gang in the Far East.
While it’s unlikely that either main stars Keanu Reeves or Swayze will return to their roles, one person behind the first movie is back – Peter Iliff, who wrote the original script, will pen and direct this follow-up as a cheaper, indie production.
He’s busy scouting locations in Singapore and Indonesia right now, and aims to nab a cast of Asians to start filming by the end of the year. Somewhere in the not-so-sleepy village of Sandford, a certain Sgt. Butterman is already setting up his folding chair outside the local fleapit…
