Suicide Squad is not about good guys vs bad guys. That's kind of the whole point of the squad; criminals rounded up by the government have their lives risked in suicide missions rather than sending in the "good guys" that the higher-ups want to keep around. The challenge for the film then, will be making audiences the world over actually like and root for those criminals. It's that challenge that's at the focus in a new behind-the-scenes featurette:
It's nice to hear the cast and crew talk about having fun, and compliments tossed director David Ayer's way for his focus on character depth. Part of what makes Suicide Squad and similar concepts work in comics is making each member of the team stand out, and it seems like we'll get the same here.
In any case, make sure to stick around during the credits.
Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
