Steve Zahn joins War For The Planet Of The Apes

War For The Planet Of The Apes has secured itself another new recruit, with The Wrap confirming that Steve Zahn has joined the upcoming sequel. While Woody Harrelson and Gabriel Chavarria have been brought on as human characters, Zahn will be swelling the ranks of Caesar’s army of apes.

Beyond the fact that he’ll be turning in a mo-cap performance, there are no further details on Zahn’s character, but he’ll likely be assisting Caesar in his battle against humanity. Indeed, plot details are being kept firmly under wraps for now, although director Matt Reeves has suggested this third outing will be the one that transforms Caesar into a semi-mythic figure.

"It’s going to be an epic story," says Reeves. "The first film was very much about his rise from humble beginnings to being a revolutionary. The second movie was about having to rise to the challenge of being a great leader in the most difficult of times. This is going to be the story that is going to cement his status as a seminal figure in ape history, and sort of leads to an almost biblical status. He is going to become like a mythic ape figure, like Moses."

Starring Andy Serkis as Caesar, War For the Planet Of The Apes will open in the US on July 14 2017 and the UK on July 21 2017.
