There has been yet more news over the last few days about what's happening with Star Trek XI.
And that's the first thing. Apparently writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci want it to be called simply Star Trek. No subtitle or numbers or nuffink. "That's the intended title," said Orci when interviewed. "I don't think we want to put any colons or anything on it."
Speaking to MTV, Orci said, "We're not going to start totally from scratch... [But] we want it to feel like it's updated and of the now." Does this mean a reimagining rather than a prequel? The writers also promised that this movie will be action-packed, with the biggest budget of any Trek film.
The winter 2008 movie is to be about young Kirk and Spock, but although it was previously thought that a Starfleet Academy setting was likely, insiders now reject this. It's more likely that the movie will be about their first mission together. It's been reported on the web that the reason why the Starfleet Academy idea won't be central to the film is that it belongs to Harve Bennett, the producer of four previous Star Trek films.
The rumblings about who's going to be in it continue as well. Matt Damon and Adrien Brody were tipped for the key roles, and recent gossip has been about James McAvoy playing Scotty – the latter is now reportedly saying that he hasn't seen a script and wouldn't do it without big changes to the character.
