The news that Marvel won’t be presenting any of its television or film properties at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con left many wondering how the year’s biggest movie marketing event would handle the absence of such a major presence. It turns out we didn’t have to wait long to find out why - Marvel’s parent company Disney has stepped up to fill the gap with another candidate. Star Wars.
A new press release on StarWars.Com reveals that Star Wars: The Force Awakens and a series of related Lucasfilm tie-ins have their own SDCC programme lined up. Early on, it was assumed that there wouldn’t be anything Star Wars related at the event, due to Disney’s own D23 Expo set to take place the following month. However that’s no longer the case with a full roster of events outlined for the second day on July 10.
Disney will commandeer one of the coveted time slots in Hall H, with Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan on hand to unveil a “special look” at Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Given that we’ve already seen two trailers, both of which avoided plot spoilers, there’s a chance the trio will offer up some story details. Elsewhere, there’s a panel featuring the writers of the Star Wars novels, a look at the popular Hasbro toyline and a Star Wars collectibles event.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18, 2015.
