Star Trek: Discovery's finally revealed its lead actress - and she’s a Walking Dead survivor

Trekkies will cling on (ahem) to any scrap of news surrounding the Star Trek: Discovery, the first Trek TV series in over a decade. But there’s finally been some big casting news: The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha on the AMC hit) will be playing the lead in the CBS All Access show.

EW are reporting that Martin-Green will be playing a lieutenant commander on the ship Discovery. So no Captain Sasha, at least not yet. CBS haven’t revealed anything else about Martin-Green's role as of writing.

This comes just days after Star Trek: Discovery cast Penny Dreadful’s Shazad Latif as Klingon Commanding Officer Kol. He joins the previously-announced cast, Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer, fungus expert Lt. Stamets, played by Anthony Rapp, and Michelle Yeoh - who is playing Starfleet captain Georgiou.

Martin-Green will continue starring as a series regular in AMC’s The Walking Dead so, worry not, she won’t meet Lucille for the moment; she’ll live long and prosper.

Star Trek: Discovery will be shown on CBS All Access from May 2017.
