Square Enix, Insomniac, and more to develop games for Oculus Rift

Looks like the Oculus Rift won't just be for quirky and experimental indie projects. At the Oculus Rift conference today, it was announced that developers like Insomniac, Square Enix, Harmonix, and many more will be supporting the Oculus Rift for the system's launch in Q1 2016.

Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Studios took the stage to show off a new made-for-VR project called Edge of Nowhere. Set in a frigid wasteland, it appears to be a horror game filled with Lovecraftian monsters and perilous obstacles. Yeah, I can get behind that.

But it's not just big publishers - Oculus is also pursuing independent games by investing $10 million into their development. One of the big worries about Oculus Rift adoption among the general public was how many games would be available for the fledgling hardware, and Oculus is taking great steps to ease that worry as much as they can.

You'll even be able to play Halo 5 using the Rift's 'virtual cinema' with the included Xbox One controller.

More details to come as this story develops.
