Spidey starts fresh with Webb?
New director to inject energy into series...
Like it or loathe it, Sony are pushing forward with their plans to reboot the Spider-Man franchise.
But who to fill Raimi’s considerable boots? James Cameron had a pop at the franchise a few years back, but don’t expect him to come running back now that he’s got his Avatar on.
Instead, word on the street is that Marc Webb, who directed last year’s sweet (500) Days of Summer , is in line to inherit the franchise.
Over at Deadline Hollywood , insider Mike Fleming says that Webb could fulfil the studio’s need for “a director with a grasp of how to depict the way young people think and feel.
“This is critical because the Jamie Vanderbilt script covers the formative years of a high school-aged Peter Parker, and that POV is as important as the action sequences.”
Apparently Sony are also looking to release the film in 2012, which is a bit of a long lead for the series. The reason? Well, 3D, of course. Expect an official announcement on that soon.
Frankly, we still hate this idea. We’ve already seen Peter Parker’s formative years, and we watched him grow up into a young adult who had plenty more stories to tell about being a struggling superhero in this modern age.

But if anybody can talk us round, it’s Webb. Summer was a cute and likeable flick, and proves that Webb can handle a bit of intimate drama between confused young people.
Can he handle special effects and 3D? Watch this space...
Name aside, is Webb the right man for the job? Spin us a line down there...
