Spider-Man gets a date, Transformers loses a number

So confident are Sony of their ability to keep the Spider-Man movie machine trundling along that they’ve done the now traditional act of announcing the release date for the next film before a frame is even shot.

In the case of Spider-Man 4, they’ve given the director three years (give or take), by announcing that it will arrive in May 2011. All they need now is… The director. And a cast. And a finished, approved script. Yes, three years sounds like a long time, but when you’re back to basics on a film as big as the Spider-movies, that time will tick away awfully quickly… The LA Times has the full story on the announcement.

In other sequel news, the currently filming Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen has decided that it really doesn’t need a subtitle number to make itself seem different from the first film. As we reported last week, Megan Fox is already busy spinning up the hype cycle, claiming it’ll be bigger and better than the original. And now it’ll only be known as Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Plus in other Transformers news, motoring blog Jalopnik has pics of the new, improved Bumblebee.
