Soundclash! The Best Custom Soundtrack Mash-ups Ever
Cinematic, atmospheric, or completely subversive. These tracks will make your games new again
A bit more XBLA love here. As you're probably aware by now,we just adore the old 2D Sonic games, but as great as the 16-bit music is, there's now room for something a bit more modern and fitting of the game's style. Thus, after some thought, we decided drum 'n' basswas the way to go for the little blue bullet. It makes total sense when you think about it.. D 'n' B basically sounds like Sonic plays; fast and boingy. We realised we had to go for the lighter, more fun end of the genre for a game like Sonic The Hedgehog, and one band made themselves immediately apparent as the frontrunner:Pendulum.
Pendulum - Tarantula
This track couldn't be any better suited to the Green Hill Zone if it had been written specifically for the game. The laconic, summery ska section fits the pace and mood of the beginning of Act 1 incredibly well, and the fast and heavy build to the kicks starts up just before the first loop. Sega, we demand drum 'n' bass become the official soundtrack style for Sonic games from this point on.
Pendulum - Girl In The Fire
The laid-back,gradual build in this one is a great accompaniment to the slower-paced Marble Zone.
Pendulum - Slam
High-velocity rhythms, multiple, filthy-hard kicks and a monumental amount of squashy bass. Plus the Spring Yard Zone. 'Nuff said.
