Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is a new, free-to-play, PS3 game

Namco Bandai has confirmed that the next Soulcalibur game, called Lost Swords, is going free-to-play. It'll be available exclusively on PSN, so Xbox 360, Wii U and PC owners will miss out. We can expect more details on release date and actual game content at Tokyo Game Show in a couple of weeks.

For now, we know that it will be coming to Europe and North America, it's single-player only, and that it'll feature Seigfried, Mitsurugi and a bunch of other well-known characters from the series. Single-player only? Yes, it seems odd cutting the multiplayer out of a fighting game... We expect the majority of the solo-play action will be based on one of the classic Weapon Master or Chronicles of the Sword modes from previous incarnations.

This continues a trend from Namco Bandai, as it continues to release many of its well known franchises as free-to-play games. Tekken Revolution, Ridge Racer Driftopia and Ace Combat Infinity are three other big-name Namco games that have gone free-to-play.

We're expecting first screenshots of Soulcalibur: Lost Swords soon. No release date has been given.
