Sony adds Sucker Punch to worldwide roster

inFamous 2 dev cements relationship with PlayStation brand

Sucker Punch Productions has officially become the sixteenth studio to join the Sony family. Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE)today announced it has added the Washington based studio to its Worldwide Studios group, securing the inFamous and Sly Cooper series developer's allegiance to the PlayStation brand.

The acquisition is a natural next step for Sucker Punch. Aside from developing the memorableRocket: Robot on Wheelsforthe Nintendo 64in 1999,it hasnot created games for any of Sony's competition since. Recalling the studio's long and fruitful partnership with Sony in today's statement, Sucker Punch's managing partner Brian Fleming explained:

"We've enjoyed an incredible relationship with Sony that has allowed us to combine our creative design capabilities with their guidance to make some of the best franchises to hit the PlayStation platforms. Equally important, the relationship with SCE has provided us the flexibility and trust to take creative risks and invent new properties...As a part of the Sony Computer Entertainment group we look forward to introducing more innovative content and providing consumers with exciting, new interactive experiences."

Chiming in on Sony's end, Shuhei Yoshida, president added: "Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family."
