Sonic creator's new game looks a bit Skies of Arcadia, sounds a bit NiGHTS, is probably neither

The game is called Machinist of the Sky Rodea, and is set for release on the 3DS and Wii. Set, as the artwork so clealy implies via the medium of blue stuff and clouds, in the sky, it features a hero called Rodea (the little chap with the big ears), some flying and some shooting. Where you'll be flying or what you'll be shooting at along the way, we do not currently know, but the control scheme sounds somewhat intriguing.

In the Wii version, the remote is the only controller you'll need. Apparently you point to navigate and press B (or waggle) to accelerate. A fires yourlightning-powered sex-toy launcher. Or plain old gun, as it may also be.

The whole "point to aim, button to boost" thing sounds very much like the Wii's NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, does it not? But then again, we couldjyst as easilybe talking about something similar to the 3DS' upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising. Either way, the sky-based setting and steampunk trappings give it a whiff of Skies of Arcadia too, making it a two-hit combo of Sega resonance from the ex-Sega man.

Hmmm, but then that gives us two options that mimic other, bigger name games. But then again, Naka's last game, Ivy the Kiwi? was pretty similar in concept to Kirby: Power Paintbrush, and that turned out mighty decent and with a feel all of its own.

What do you reckon? Any crazy leftfield guesses of your own? Or is Naka's previous association no longer enough to make you care?

Thanks,Siliconera.
