Snowpiercer chugs toward the small screen

The unstoppable movie-to-TV trend continues, with THR reporting that Tomorrow Studios has secured the rights to Bong Joon-Ho's Snowpiercer for a planned small-screen serial. The 2013 movie earned a wealth of critical acclaim for its harrowing depiction of what life would be like ... if we were all trapped on a train. In a never-ending post-apocalyptic blizzard.

Chris Evans starred in the movie as a rugged everyman who refused to accept his situation as a back-of-the-train dweller. His journey to the front of the vessel finds him in dire straits on multiple occasions, usually at the hands of Tilda Swinton's deliciously twisted villain. There's no word on whether any of the original cast are poised to return, yet the creative talent currently attached ought to allay any fears.

Bong returns to executive produce with Chan-wook Park, while Josh Friedman is attached to pen the script. His previous credits include the brilliant Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. "I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity," Friedman said in a statement. "I’m a huge fan of director Bong’s films, especially Snowpiercer. It’s great the way the best sci-fi is great — thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it’s on a train. A big f—ing train. What more could you want?"
