Lucas joins the battle as paid Smash Bros. DLC on June 14

Do you feel the electricity in the air, hear the roll of PK Thunder in the distance? No need to run for cover, Nintendo has announced that Lucas will enter the fray in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS on June 14.

Lucas was the protagonist of Mother 3, but since that game never officially released outside of Japan, you may know him better as the Ness-alike from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He was one of the few Brawl-ers to not make the leap to the next generation of Smash, and you can get a feel for the slightly revised moveset he's picked up since then in his reveal trailer below.

Lucas is actually the second DLC character for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS, but he's the first you'll definitely have to pay to play - Mewtwo was awarded free to players who purchased and registered both versions of the game. Unlocking Lucas for one system will cost $3.99 / £3.59, or you can nab him for both Wii U and 3DS for $4.99 / £4.49. You'll also be able to download a Splatoon Inkling outfit for your Mii fighters on the same day.

Nintendo hasn't revealed any upcoming downloadable fighters beyond Lucas at this point, but you're still free to cast your ballot for whoever you want to see join the battle.
