Why you can trust 12DOVE
Anyone can sing that plinky plonky modern crap. If you want to really prove your chops at the next karaoke party, you need Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, The Supremes, and probably a bucket or two of blue party punch. Highlights from this latest disc include classics like The Jackson 5’s ABC, Stevie Wonder’s For Once In My Life, and – a guaranteed show stopper – Rick James’ Super Freak.
There are a couple of dud tracks though, (The Velvelettes’ Needle In A Haystack, anyone?) but track for track, it’s still one of the strongest discs yet, as long as you appreciate a dose of classic motown. It’ll also be easier to get your parents involved if they actually know some of the tracks. So it’s essentially the same SingStar as ever: sing the right notes, score big points, do your best to impress your mates when you actually look a bit silly, but with a strong retro flavour. Nothing wrong with that, either.
