Sims and art meet in New York
Museum exhibit to showcase art-student projects based on the world's most popular people simulator. GR's own art critic weighs in
Maria Berrio, BFA Illustration
"Maria Berrio draws a parallel between the stories played in The Sims and the stories played out in real life, as documented through her sketchbooks."
Tyler's take: For illustrators, effective communication is key: an illustration isn't an illustration unless it illustrates something. Crude depictions of hipsters sticking fingers up their noses collaged into a notebook illustrates that this artist is quick to jump on trends and got a "C+" in introductory scrapbooking. There's nothing wrong with the currently hip medium of collage – but its naturally freeform appearance doesn't make everyone with a glue stick avant-garde.
