Returning to his native Donegal, Berlin-based sound recordist Eoghan (Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhride) tries to capture landscapes uncontaminated by man-made noise until, eventually, he reaches his childhood home on a remote island.
Silence straddles the line between documentary and fiction: local characters Eoghan meets are non-professional actors, while co-writer/director Pat Collins weaves archive footage into his AV tapestry.
Closer to Abbas Kiarostami ( Like Someone In Love ) than Berberian Sound Studio , it’s a lyrical if emotionally muted journey.
