Sigourney Weaver agrees that Alien vs. Predator is terrible
While at the London Film and Comic-Con this past weekend, Sigourney Weaver shared her thoughts on the low point of the Alien franchise, and her response is one that most fans will do doubt agree with. "I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs. Predator, which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies."
"I’ve nothing against building a movie on a video game, but at the time it was, as Jim Cameron said, I think publicly, ‘Why would you want to do that?' It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman.” She added that the crossover adaptation was responsible for Ridley Scott dropping out of making another proper Alien sequel: “I think it caused more problems than it was worth." No kidding.
Weaver changed her tune when talk turned to Neill Blomkamp's sequel, in which she's expected to reprise her role of Lt. Ellen Ripley. “I’m so excited about Neill -- because Neill is like you guys!" she told the hordes of fans. "He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much. I love the fact that’s Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”
With that sequel in the early stages of pre-production, aside from the gallery of concept art published by Blomkamp, there's little known about the plot. Weaver did drop a small hint however, when asked if Ripley would ever get a happy ending. “Well — it’s certainly something we’ve discussed. I agree, she’s had kind of a crap life. Many interruptions.”
