Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked release date revealed via trailer

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Atlus' remake of the DS original, has a new trailer which reveals that the game'll be available for North American players on August 23. The game's three biggest selling-points – higher-resolution graphics, fully-voiced script and another day added to the story – are hard things to highlight in trailer form, but the video gives it the old college try. Have a look and see what you think.

Of course, you can't really get too far into plot details without turning your trailer into a great big spoiler-athon, though it mostly involves fashionable Japanese teens trapped in Tokyo trying to figure out why demons are invading. Unfortunately, even though the up-rezzed visuals are a mite crisper than the DS version's, they can’t really shine in the shrunk-and-cropped format on show here. Though there sure is lots of speech – including the admonition that “fighting demons isn't a game”, always a weird line to include in something that definitely is a game – so if that's what you're in it for, you'll be in hog heaven with this trailer.

Despite being a remake, Devil Survivor is the first RPG for the system, so 3DS owners starving for HP, MP, and monster collecting should be on board. Wegave the DS original a 9, so we hope Atlus can maintain the magic the second time around. By the way, this title is the first time EVER a Shin Megami game has come out in America before Japan. As we’re having fun on 8/23, Japanese players must wait till September 1.
