Shin Megami Tensei 5 release date and story details revealed in website leak
We'll be exploring the world of Da'ath later this year
The Shin Megami Tensei 5 release date is apparently November 11, 2021, according to a new leak.
The leak itself actually comes from the official Shin Megami Tensei 5 Japanese website which, earlier today, was accidentally updated to reveal the release date of November 11 (thanks, Persona Central). The official website for the forthcoming game has since been updated to remove the release date information, but not before it was noticed by the internet at large.
Additionally, some story information about Shin Megami Tensei 5 was revealed through the website. The main character, a high school student trying to live an ordinary life in Japan, inadvertently wanders into another mysterious world called "Da'ath." While here, the hero somehow fuses with an enigmatic character and becomes a being known as "Naobino."
The gods apparently aren't too impressed by this Naobino being, throwing the world into conflict. As for the world of Da'ath itself, it's something of a ruined cityscape with encroaching desert sand scattered about everywhere. The world is also host to around 200 demonic creatures, which the hero character will have to fight as they journey through this mysterious new world.
Right now, this is all the information we have to go on about Shin Megami Tensei 5. The sequel was first announced all the way back in 2017, and vanished from the public view over subsequent years, finally re-emerging last year in 2020 in a Nintendo Direct Mini. It was here that the release window of 2021 was unveiled, as well as the sequel being a Nintendo Switch exclusive. From this new leak, we know that Shin Megami Tensei 5 will be arriving right at the very end of 2021.
During this Nintendo Direct Mini, the remaster of Shin Megami Tensei 3 was also revealed for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster is out right now, having launched last month in May, bringing one of the more beloved entries from the long-running series to modern platforms with remastered visuals and new gameplay content.
