Details surrounding Spike Lee's upcoming remake of Korean classic Oldboy have been relatively few and far between, casting announcements aside, but Sharlto Copley has dropped a few hints about the feel of the film in a new interview with MTV .
"They've been very true to the spirit of it," says Copley, who will play the villain of the piece. "It's dark, it's gritty. They're not sort of softening it, which to me was important. And I'm very excited about that movie. I'm very excited about working with Spike and with Josh [ Brolin ]."
"I think it's going to be a film that is really worth redoing," continues Copley, "and make that idea that is such an unbelievable story accessible to maybe more people than it was originally."
The film will focus on Joe (Brolin), a man who has been kidnapped and imprisoned in a nondescript hotel for more than two decades without ever understanding why. When he is suddenly released, he's challenged to discover the reason for his punishment in just four days, with the threat of severe punishment looming over him if he doesn't.
Co-starring Elizabeth Olsen, Old Boy (the title is apparently being split into two words this time around) has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to arrive at some point next year.
