As well as the 13 regular issues we produce every year, we also produce quarterly Specials that concentrate on a single subject within sci-fi, fantasy and horror. A while back we asked visitors to our forum what they'd like to see in a future Special and one of the most popular suggestions was an anime-themed one. Never let it be said that we don't listen: The SFX Collection: Anime hits the news stands today!
We've pulled out all the stops to create a Special that will serve as an excellent guide for people new to Japanese animation while also providing satisfying content for long-established fans. Our big feature is a run-down of the top 25 must-see anime titles - our guide to the movies and TV series we feel every anime fan should see. We've also interviewed some big names from Japan - anime directors Goro Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon give us the lowdown on their work and on their latest films, Tales from Earthsea and Paprika. Video game fans needn't feel left out either - we've got a retrospective on the RPG masters Square Enix, as well as a preview of the latest instalment in the Final Fantasy series, the hotly-anticipated Final Fantasy XII.
We also have a look back at the work of Studio Ghibli, the home of Hayao Miyazaki and the people behind Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. And if you're a child of the '60s, '70s or '80s then our feature on retro anime should give you a warm buzz of nostalgia. All this and much, much more!
Every copy of The SFX Collection: Anime comes with a free DVD from ADV films, including an episode of top-rated anime series Samurai Gun, as well as loads of exclusive preview material for the guns-and-swords-based Nintendo Wii game, Red Steel. The package is completed with a free double-sided A2 poster, featuring Manga Entertainment’s Naruto on one side and exclusive Final Fantasy XII artwork from Square Enix on the other. Inside the mag we've also got the first chapter of The Sunwell Trilogy, Tokyopop's new manga series based on World of Warcraft, and sample pages from Arcturus Publishing's How to Draw Manga series, with a special money-off deal for SFX readers.
