SFX historical note: The following pictures were specially commissioned by SF for the three winners in a major reader poll to find the best SF and fantasy book, film and TV show of all time ( The Lord Of The Rings , Star Wars Episode I and Buffy The Vampire Slayer , if you couldn’t tell). The artist doing the Star Wars one never quite got what we were after – it was supposed to look like antique Japanese artwork to refect the samurai influences that Lucas put into the films… Oh well.
