MOORE CALLS V MOVIE “IMBECILIC”
Alan Moore blasts the film version of V For Vendetta . C’est la vie
With V For Vendetta having just wrapped filming in London, a foul-smelling wind is blowing from original comic book author Alan Moore. The notoriously film-cynical Moore has officially distanced himself from the movie, which flies in the face of Joel Silver's previous claim in March that Moore was "very excited" by the Wachowski brothers' script, and that they hoped he would become more involved once shooting moved to London.
Talking to the website comicbookresources.com, Moore attacked the shooting script he saw as being “imbecilic” and containing “plot holes you wouldn't see in Whizzer And Chips ”. His biggest issue was with the details, which betray a lack of research into British culture: “They don't know what British people have for breakfast, they couldn’t be bothered. ‘Eggy in a basket’ apparently. Now the US have ‘eggs in a basket’… I guess they thought we must eat that as well, and thought ‘eggy in a basket’ was a quaint and Olde Worlde version.” Moore also requested a retraction from DC/Warner Brothers over Silver’s original statement, but when no such retraction materialised, he publicly disassociated himself from V For Vendetta and cut his remaining ties with DC Comics. The next League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen graphic novel, “Dark Dossier”, will be the final League book published by DC.
