Lauren Beukes, China Miéville and Patrick Ness debate at London's Free Word Centre
Beukes (Zoo City), Miéville (The City And The City) and Ness (A Monster Calls) - all recipients of The Kitschie Red Tentacle award - will meet at 6:30pm at the Free Word Centre to discuss the legacy science fiction and fantasy have and the social change it has brought. There will also be readings as well as the panel discussion, plus book signings afterwards.
Lauren Beukes is the author of Zoo City, winner of both the 2010 Arthur C Clarke Award and Kitschie Red Tentacle Award. The Shining Girls, which features a time-travelling serial killer, is due for release in 2013. China Miéville is the only author to date to win the Arthur C Clarke Award three times. He also teaches creative writing at Warwick University. Patrick Ness is a critic for The Guardian and wrote The Chaos Walking Trilogy and A Monster Calls, winner of both the 2011 Red Tentacle and the Carnegie Medal.
This great opportunity is hosted by The Kitschies, the annual award of culture blog Pornokitsch . The coveted Red Tentacle is awarded for intelligent, progressive and entertaining genre writing. The most recent ceremony was held at SFX's own Weekender event in February. Anne C Perry and Jared Shurin of Pornokitsch will introduce the 11 September event, which will take place at the Free Word Centre in London from 6:30pm. Standard tickets are £7.50 (not including booking fees), which you can get from the official Free Word Centre site .
