This year's FantasyCon organisers have announced that Sebastian Peake will be a special guest attending the convention. He will speak about his father Mervyn, the poet, artist and writer behind the much-loved Gormenghast trilogy.
Sebastian is the eldest of Mervyn and Maeve Peake's children, and speaks regularly at literary festivals, schools and universities both in the UK and overseas. He is the author of A Child of Bliss: Growing Up With Mervyn Peake (1989) and has published three collections of poetry - he also writes about Mervyn and related topics on the Mervyn Peake blog .
FantasyCon 2009 will take place 18-20 September at the Britannia Hotel, Nottingham. The event is a long-standing tradition, beginning formally in 1975 (although British Fantasy Society AGMs had been held at Eastercon as early as 1972). Celebrated guests attending in 2009 include Ian Watson (Master of Ceremonies), Gail Z Martin, Brian Clemens and Jasper Fforde. Find out more at the official site . FantasyCon will also see the announcement of the BFS Awards (psst, SFX is on the shortlist for best mag).
